The Iquitos Amazon Mission was founded in 1991 by Christine Carmichiel RPA-C, medical missionary to Peru.

In 2001 Nurse Ruth Eliana Tello Gonzales took over the mission as administrator of the ONG (non-Governmental Organization) and also established the Church (FPC-Family Prayer Center) in The Punchana district of Iquitos.

The non-profit organization was registered and formed to give help to those in need of extra help to pay for medicines and medical attention. The mission also provided free medicines and medical training to the people who live in the river villages of the Amazon.  From 2001 to 2015 medical teams traveled out to native and “mestizo” villages planting new churches.  Residents were healed and accepted Jesus as they were ministered to both spiritually and physically.  Medical posts were established and medicines stocked.  Medical workers were trained to administer first aid and basic medical care.  Networking with the Regional government, medicines were established to provide ongoing care and establish permanent relationships with government and churches for continuing medical and spiritual help.

Today, the work continues with occasional Civil Action outreaches in coordination with the Regional Hospital of Iquitos, bringing volunteer doctors and nurses to villages requesting help. Thanks to all the volunteer doctors and nurses, many river residents now have continual access to medical attention.   This cooperative effort is the fruit of years of service coordinated by Carmichiel and Eliana Tello to assist the Amazon people.

Eliana Tello also pastors a church in Iquitos called The Family Prayer Center of Iquitos.  Every Sunday she feeds 15-60 children breakfast and the Word of God with services for adults and youth throughout the week.  Eliana also teaches Christian education.
